Community & Family

LOUCC actively supports organizations and programs that help people live and thrive within their families and communities. We provide ongoing support to the HIV/AIDS Daycare Center at Ainsworth UCC in NE Portland as well as the Southwest Community Health Center, which provides basic, quality health services to low-income residents of SW Portland and the surrounding area. Our children and youth, as well as adults from our congregation, have contributed both money and hands-on volunteer hours to Northwest Children’s Outreach, which provides clothing, toys, and books to children in need.

We also support Camp Adams, a 210-acre, forested recreational retreat center located 35 miles south of Portland, Oregon that is owned and operated by the Central Pacific Conference of the United Church of Christ. A workday at Camp Adams in 2010 uncovered a need for kitchen items for Hope Cabin. Our Christmas “giving tree” that year was used to collect many useful kitchen tools for that cabin.

LOUCC and our sister Jewish Congregation Beit Haverim share in the monthly outreach activity Dining for Women. On the third Wednesday of each month, members of both congregations and the wider community gather to share a potluck meal and learn about organizations helping women across the globe become more self-sufficient.
